Some Tips For Better Looking Skin

As Winter approaches, our skin can suffer if we do not take care.

After what has, by British standards, been a good summer, with plenty of sunlight and warm weather, many of us are bracing ourselves for the reality of the cold months of winter that lie ahead.

Whilst there are many pleasant things about this time of year; for many of us, it means that our skin can become dry and less healthy looking than it does with a summer glow.

Preventative measures

There are a number of measures which we can take to help our skin stay looking healthy through the winter months. Ensuring that we are well hydrated is an essential aspect of this. Whilst we may find this easy to do during the warmer months when we feel thirsty through the heat, many people drink less because of the cold weather. Ensuring that you drink adequate amounts water is considered by many to be the first step on the road to healthy skin.

A healthy diet is also essential. There can be a tendency to eat more ‘comfort’ foods that are high in fats and sugars during the winter. This should be avoided where possible, and a healthy diet maintained.

It is worth mentioning that our skin can be affected by the sun’s rays in winter in the same way that it can in the summer. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, either working or walking, it is worth putting on a broad spectrum sunscreen, especially on very sunny days. This is particularly important for those of us who are lucky enough to get away on high-altitude skiing holidays.

Professional skin care

At The Lodge Dental Suite we offer a facial aesthetics service for our patients from Cheshunt, Enfield and Waltham Cross. Whilst many of our patients know us for the Botox and dermal fillers that are used to help smooth out lines and wrinkles that come with age, we also offer a skin system that helps to keep the effects of ageing at bay and helps to preserve healthy skin. The Obagi Nu-Derm System is one of the leading skin care systems currently available in the UK. It has been shown to fight the effects of the sun and other factors that affect our skin, such as stress and hormonal changes.

It has been shown to help not only with lines and wrinkles, but also age spots, discolouration and poor skin tone, amongst other things.

Patients who have used this system have reported that they feel less inclined to use heavier make up in order to disguise their skin as they are much happier with the way that it looks when they use the product.

If you would like to know more about the Obagi Nu-Derm System, or about our facial aesthetics service in general and live in the local area, please call The Lodge Dental Suite on 01992 643388 to arrange a consultation.
