A Cuffley patient asks whether her teeth are a lost cause.
Occasionally, we receive emails from patients which we feel address concerns that many people would benefit from reading. We recently received the following one from a patient from nearby Cuffley.
Q. I’m fairly new to this area and looking to register with a dentist. One of my main concerns, other than obviously keeping my teeth healthy, is that my teeth look horrible. Thankfully I still have them all and they are not really crooked or anything, but they have gone a really dark shade of yellow, possibly due to me smoking since my teenage years until stopping over a year ago at the age of 53. I mentioned this to a work colleague and she suggested that I contact you as you had whitened her teeth for her and was very happy with the results. I just wonder though if mine might be a lost cause?
Hello, and thank you for getting in touch with us, and to your friend for recommending us. We do indeed, provide teeth whitening treatments. We offer one that can be performed at our dental surgery and which takes around just one hour to complete. Alternatively, we can provide customised whitening kits for use at home which also produce excellent results but over a longer period of time. Some patients do prefer this method and find it more convenient, but you may choose according to your own circumstances.
Without seeing you and examining your teeth, it is difficult to say how successful this procedure would be. Whilst I have little doubt that you would see at least some improvement, if your teeth are as heavily stained as you suggest it may well be that you may not get as good a results as you would hope for. If this is the case, dental veneers could be the best option for you. These replace a fine layer from the front of your teeth with a new porcelain veneer which restores your teeth to any shade of whiteness that you want.
If you wish to try the non invasive route first of all, you are quite welcome to do this, and many patients opt for this route as a teeth whitening procedure is one of the most affordable cosmetic dental procedures available. First of all though, I would recommend that as we are conveniently situated near Cuffley, that you arrange an initial consultation with one of our cosmetic dentists and we can examine your teeth and discuss your options going forward.
You can be assured that our dentists will advise you honestly and ethically and will not ‘push’ you towards the more expensive dental veneer option if we feel that you might benefit sufficiently from one of our teeth whitening procedures.
If you would like to follow up your question with a consultation, please call The Lodge Dental Suite on 01992 643388 and one of our friendly reception team will make an appointment for you. We look forward to meeting you.
